Greater Seattle Aquarium Society

Saturday, November 14th, 1:00 PM - Nora Hickey, Aquatic Veterinarian
SPU, Otto Miller 109 (back to our normal room!)

Dr. Nora Hickey is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and the Aquatic Health Section Head at the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Her work centers around education and outreach for aquaculture stakeholders in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to her three years working at WADDL as the Aquatic Health laboratory manager, Nora worked for six years at Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission providing veterinary services to tribal fish hatcheries in western Washington. Nora received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

But beating in the heart of every scientist is a hobbyist and Nora loves all aquatic species. She is a particular lover of Hoplisoma (see October's topic!) and they’ll be our Fish Of The Month in her honor. She will speak about selection, quarantine and common fish diseases.

After the presentation, stay for our Monthly Auction after (sellers, pre-register your stuff here).

A big thanks to all who helped put on the 2026 All-Aquarium Catfish Convention, including our sponsors and donors, our table vendors, the speakers, the many GSAS and out-of-town volunteers, and of course, all of you for attending!

Hope everyone's having a great summer. The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society Fall Schedule is out now. Please note we are moving a couple of meetings around due to the All-Aquarium Catfish Convention:

• September 12 - Sam Fernald Hillstream Loaches - Building change: Demaray Hall. Plus Friday night gathering in Edmonds.
• October 9-11 - All-Aquarium Catfish Convention at Southcenter Doubletree - separate registration fee required to attend Friday and Saturday presentations, Sunday auction is FREE to bid!
• November 14 - Nora Hickey D.V.M. Aquatic Veterinarian
• December 12 (evening) - Our annual Holiday Party and Awards Presentation

A big thank you to everyone who came out in force to our record-breaking general auction this year, especially to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly the whole day. And a special thanks to the sponsor stores and national companies.

Our big auctions still remain the primary source of income from the club, and their success means we can pay our rent and Internet video storage bills, bring in top quality speakers, and have nice prizes in our contests throughout the year. Thanks again!
